Pairing: Kuwabara x Kurama
Rating: PG to NC-17.

Again, written for the community [livejournal.com profile] 1sentence. This time it's Kuwabara x Kurama, a pairing which is quickly growing on me. It's interesting, I think, that these took me longer than the other two. I believe that it's because I know so much more about these characters. It seems that the more you know a character, the harder they become to write, because you know what they would do or say in a situation, and you just can't make that fit.

Anyone even vaguely familiar with my writing will notice that, again, Yusuke makes a few cameo appearances, because, try as I might, I just can't seem to separate the three boys.

Anyway, comments and criticisms are welcomed. Fair warning: most of these turned out a lot more explicit than I intended. All in all though, I'm pleased. Let me know what you think.

# 01: Motion
They go out dancing one night, and amidst all the light and the sound, the pulsing music and the gyrating bodies, Kuwabara cannot tear his eyes away from the smooth motion of Kurama’s lithe form, the rolling undulations of his slim hips as the fox-demon sways seductively to the beat.

# 02: Cool
Kurama’s hands trailing down his bare hips are cool and smooth, and Kuwabara arches desperately into that touch, trying to quench the fire burning through his veins.

# 03: Young
There are times when Kurama feels guilty about his relationship with Kuwabara – the human is just so young, it practically feels like a crime to be involved with him – but then Kuwabara looks into his eyes, and he sees the pain of lost friendships, the undeniable strength of spirit, and a wisdom beyond the years of his mortal form, and the feeling fades, for no child could have eyes like that.

# 04: Last
Kuwabara may not be the first of Kurama’s lovers, but he knows in his heart – with more certainty that he has ever known anything in his entire life, both as the legendary fox-demon Kurama and as the human Shuuichi Minamino – that the human boy will be his last.

# 05: Wrong
Kuwabara checks the answer, and then – just for good measure – checks it again, but it doesn’t change anything: the answer he has gotten is still wrong – very wrong – and he drops his head onto the table repeatedly with a dull “thonk” until a smooth hand catches his forehead and draws him to a pair of familiar, inviting lips, which murmur against his own, “Rest easy, love, I’m here for you, always; what can I do to help?”

# 06: Gentle
Kurama just can’t shake the expectation that the sex is going to be rough – Kuwabara is so much bigger, so much stronger, than he – and it is, sometimes; but just as often, he is pleasantly surprised by the gentleness with which the human lays him down, enters him, and simply rolls his hips in slow waves until the pleasure crests and overflows.

# 07: One
Kurama wonders for a moment why he has woken, until he hears the muffled groans from beside him and rolls over to see Kuwabara on his back, one callused hand sliding smoothly along his cock; and as Kurama bats the hand gently away, straddling the larger boy’s hips and sinking slowly down onto him, it doesn’t matter that it’s one in the morning, that they both have early classes in a few hours, that his parents and sweet little brother are sleeping only a few doors down the hall – all that matters is that his lover is hard and hungry, moving deliciously under him and in him, silencing his cries by biting savagely into Kurama’s neck as he spills himself into the fox-demon’s body with one last vicious thrust of his hips.

# 08: Thousand
Apparently, Kuwabara manages to think dazedly, some thousand-plus years of experience come in damn handy, before all he can think about is the unbelievable swell of pleasure as Kurama’s hot mouth moves along his aching cock.

# 09: King
“Royal flush,” Kurama says smugly, laying down that last, damning, King, and Kuwabara swears under his breath as he stands to strip off his boxers, cursing the moment of weakness that allowed Kurama to talk him into – more like bribe him into, really, using those bedroom eyes that he is certain the fox knows are absolutely irresistible – playing Strip Poker.

# 10: Learn
Kuwabara lies, still and silent and more than a little bemused, as Kurama runs light, questing fingertips over every inch of the human’s skin, as though he wants nothing more than to learn the solid body by touch alone.

# 11: Blur
He cradles the cold, limp body to his chest as his vision blurs – he’s not crying, he tells himself angrily, because men don’t cry – and it isn’t just his demon lover he’s holding, it’s his heart, his life, his future, and suddenly, he finds it difficult to conjure up any compelling reason to keep fighting.

# 12: Wait
When someone pulls Kuwabara roughly aside on his way home from school, he lashes out instinctively and is only mildly surprised when his wrist is caught and pinned against a nearby wall and he suddenly finds himself with an armful of warm fox-demon, murmuring into his ear as he twines their bodies together deliciously, “Can’t wait, need you now.”

# 13: Change
Kuwabara is early, and Kurama answers the door in a state of only partial dress – shirt unbuttoned, half-off, slacks hanging low on slim hips – a decision, he realizes later as he lies in bed, sleepy and sated, the time for their dinner reservations long since passed, which may not have been wise, as the sight of that much exposed skin is, apparently, far too great a temptation for Kuwabara’s overly-hormonal teenaged body.

# 14: Command
Kurama commands a great deal of power and respect in the Makai – as is to be expected, being the almost-constant companion of one of the three ruling Lords – but his own heart is commanded by a mere human back in the Ningenkai, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

# 15: Hold
Cradling the telephone to his ear, Kuwabara is eyeing the wall and contemplating just how hard he’d have to hit it to knock himself blissfully unconscious when Kurama walks in, takes one look at his anguished expression, and guesses, “They’ve put you on hold again, haven’t they?”; when he nods, the fox-demon just smiles and murmurs, “Then put it on speakerphone and let me distract you,” before leaning in to capture Kuwabara’s lips, leaving him to fumble blindly for the correct button.

# 16: Need
Kurama manages to deny his feelings for Kuwabara until what began as an innocent, passing attraction develops suddenly into an insatiable need; until all he can think about is the sight, the touch, the scent, the taste of the human boy, much of which he is forced to imagine, as he is fairly certain he will never be allowed the chance to experience it.

# 17: Vision
Every time Kuwabara sees the fox-demon within Kurama, he is struck by how much the youko makes him think of legendary visions of beauty, though he can never decide whether this particular vision hails from the gates of Heaven or the bowels of Hell – the white mist and silver hair are ethereal enough, but the cool glint in amber eyes, the smell of blood that shimmers in the surrounding air, the wiry body stretched over his own and thrusting into him with quick, rough strokes: these things are far too sinfully desirable for the pastimes of angels.

# 18: Attention
He glares at the demon next to him, who is there under the guise of tutoring Kuwabara – “You know, it’s really hard to pay attention to anything while you’re doing that.” “Doing what?” – but as the feather-light touch of long fingers trails up the inside of his thigh again, he decides that it just isn’t worth it anymore, and he slams the book closed, lifts the fox up onto the table, and covers his mouth desperately, hissing, “If I fail my Physics test tomorrow, I’m blaming you.”

# 19: Soul
He knows full well that there resides a soul in every creature – he has seen those of his friends, after all, thanks to the Taboo incident with Kaitou – and from there, it is only a small step for Kurama to believe that each of these souls has a match, and that he has found his in an overprotective, awkward, perfect human boy.

# 20: Picture
It’s almost frightening how easily Kuwabara can picture himself spending the rest of his life quite happily with nothing and no one save only the lean, beautiful, imprisoned fox-demon at his side and in his heart.

# 21: Fool
Kuwabara berates himself internally for being a first-class fool – with all of the options he has, male and female, human and demon, why would Kurama ever settle for a less-than-average human boy?

# 22: Mad
Kurama often wonders if he’s gone completely mad; after all, Kuwabara is obviously in love with gentle Yukina, and he has never expressed anything more than platonic, respectful, and cautious friendship towards the fox-demon.

# 23: Child
Kuwabara can’t help but think of how he’s really a child in comparison to the fox-demon that is Kurama’s true form – after all, he has not yet seen two decades pass, while the demon has several thousand years of life experience under his belt.

# 24: Now
Their first time together, Kurama tries to take it slowly, preparing the human gently and thoroughly to avoid any unnecessary pain, but Kuwabara takes his wrist in an iron grip and rasps out, “I want you in me, now,” and Kurama simply cannot conjure up the will to resist.

# 25: Shadow
Kurama imagines sometimes that he can almost see Kuwabara’s mortality, looming ominously over them, throwing their lives and their time together into grim shadow; it’s these times when he takes the human into his arms, into his bed, and lets the ecstasy overwhelm everything, leaving him unable to see or hear or feel anything but his mortal lover.

# 26: Goodbye
When Kurama leaves for a prestigious college in another part of Japan, Kuwabara refuses to say goodbye; instead, the instant before Kurama must board a plane for what might as well be the other side of the world, he pulls the fox-demon into a searing kiss and mutters huskily, “I’m gonna be right there with you in a year, and you’d damn well better be waiting for me,” before stalking off to study without another word, because it’s going to take a lot of work, but Kuwabara never goes back on his word.

# 27: Hide
The two stand in the center of the ruined flowerbeds, the scent of crushed roses permeating their skin and hair, incriminating evidence of their fight becoming a little too rough, and when Yusuke grins – “You realize Kurama’s going to have our hides for this.” – Kuwabara returns the expression – “Our hides? You forget that I have quite some leverage with our resident fox-demon.” – and enjoys watching the color drain dramatically from the half-demon’s face.

# 28: Fortune
The carnival comes to town, and Kuwabara pretends to be annoyed as Kurama drags him around to every stall, but he really is enjoying how the playful fox-demon’s face lights up every time Kuwabara wins him another completely useless neon-bright stuffed animal (and he can’t say he’s surprised that when the hoards of animals become a little too hard to carry, Kurama starts handing out the excess to the children who are having some trouble with the games) – but their evening takes a sudden turn towards the supernatural when the fox-demon decides he wants to get their auras read and their fortunes told, and the wizened old woman in the tent simply looks at them, with eyes that are all too knowing, and tells them that their futures are right in front of their eyes, and they need only to see them.

# 29: Safe
Kurama’s demon form is very different from his human – more aggressive, and, therefore, more dangerous – but there are little things he does that are remnants of the human side of himself: the breathy moans against Kuwabara’s neck, the cool fingers along his cock – these are Shuuichi, and it is these things, more than anything else, that make Kuwabara feel safe enough to allow the centuries-old demon to push him down and fuck him.

# 30: Ghost
Kurama has plenty of skeletons in his closet, more than enough ghosts from his past that haunt him from time to time; experience has taught him that the best remedy when the past becomes a little too much to deal with in the present is to let Kuwabara take him into strong arms and simply sit, letting the knowledge that he is here, now, loved and in love, chase the hurt away.

# 31: Book
It all starts as a game, an attempt to distract Kurama from the novel he seems so absorbed in, so when Kuwabara tries asking, “Would you ever consider sleeping with me?” – just to see if he can get a rise out of the fox-demon – and Kurama finally does look up at him with an enigmatic smile, the human isn’t quite sure if he’s supposed to feel that strange surge of happiness and anticipation.

# 32: Eye
Kuwabara can’t really decide how he should feel when Kurama gets that look in his eye – it’s true that there is generally a lot of frustratingly arousing teasing that follows, but the fox-demon is very good at building up the pleasure until it inevitably climaxes, leaving Kuwabara drifting pleasantly in the aftermath.

# 33: Never
The day Kuwabara dies, Kurama vows that he will never love again – and, indeed, he does not; his heart feels no love for anything else until the day his soul, too, passes from the physical world – and that is precisely why it seems so fitting that the first soul to greet him when he passes over is that of his human lover; at the sight of that long-missed form smiling and reaching out to him, Kurama feels his heart melt, and he allows himself to love once again.

# 34: Sing
Kurama tends to shy away from singing in the company of other people, as previous efforts have led to his being teased on account of his rather feminine alto range, but when the pressures of everyday life become so great that Kuwabara’s psychic shields crumble beneath the overwhelming feelings of hate and envy that radiate from each and every human being, Kurama can think of nothing he can do to help but to rock the trembling human in his arms and croon softly the lullabies his human mother once sang to him, long ago.

# 35: Sudden
Their relationship begins in a fashion that is both startlingly sudden and unbearably slow; powerful emotions, pent up for far too long, are released and conveyed within a kiss that is almost accidental – a soft, impulsive brushing of lips as Kuwabara holds Kurama close after a mission, offering support to the fox-demon weakened by injury and fatigue.

# 36: Stop
The first time Kuwabara enters him, Kurama is surprised to find tears streaming down his face – he feels no pain, he cannot understand why he should be crying – and when he feels the human boy’s movements slow, he reaches up and kisses him fiercely, murmuring, “No, don’t stop, please.”

# 37: Time
As he lays fresh flowers on the last of four graves, Kurama considers how Time is really the cruelest element of them all – colder than Ice, with a pain more searing than Fire – for She has bound him to his demon heritage, leaving him to bury the humans dear to him, one by one.

# 38: Wash
At first, Kuwabara sulks over his shattered arm – the result of Yusuke’s careless forgetting that he possesses the strength of a demon now – but it just doesn’t seem quite as lamentable when Kurama is standing behind him in the shower, slick skin pressed against his own, washing his back with fleeting touches and the playful brush of soft lips and rough tongue.

# 39: Torn
Kuwabara knows that he should probably be a little more frustrated at constantly having to come up with new and creative excuses for his torn clothes, but it’s hard when the cause is that Kurama gets impatient waiting for him to undress and rather favors the alternative of simply ripping his clothes off of his body.

# 40: History
When Kurama returns home from his seemingly endless after-school activities and finds Kuwabara sprawled on the couch, fast asleep, history book opened to the current reading assignment and resting on his lap, he decides to let the human boy lie and, after covering him with a light blanket, sets about making dinner, politely ignoring the wall-shaking snores coming from the living room.

# 41: Power
Kuwabara has seen the power lying dormant under Kurama’s calm façade and knows, instinctively, that it should worry him, lying with someone who is perfectly capable of killing him at half-strength; but when he has the fox-demon pinned beneath his body, mouth pressed to that soft neck, hearing and feeling the pleas against his bare skin, it doesn’t really matter who’s more powerful anymore.

# 42: Bother
They leave him behind – they have to, it would be suicide to take him along – every time they go to the Makai, and he knows that it should probably bother him – his closest friends, all together without him, all more powerful than, all better than him, if you get right down to it – but the only thing that concerns him is that it’s Kurama out there in that incredibly dangerous world, and he’s never really quite sure if this will be the time the fox-demon doesn’t come back.

# 43: God
Kuwabara’s not sure if there is some all-powerful God out there, but that doesn’t stop him from whispering a prayer of thanks to anyone or anything that might be listening as he drifts into sleep with the graceful fox-demon curled in his arms.

# 44: Wall
Kurama lets a low groan of pleasure escape his parted lips as Kuwabara pins him roughly against the nearest wall, mouthing his neck and rocking their hips together.

# 45: Naked
Kuwabara rolls over to gaze fondly at the sleeping fox-demon, and cannot resist pulling the light sheets off of his body, material sliding smoothly over bare skin, to marvel at the simple beauty that is Kurama’s naked form.

# 46: Drive
Kurama gets bored on the long drive up to college, and Kuwabara discovers first-hand that a bored fox-demon is a dangerous one: Kurama decides to take advantage of a particularly long stretch of deserted highway to have some fun, and before Kuwabara even knows what’s happening, the fox-demon is leaning over the center console, mouth latched to his neck, hand wriggling past the waistband of his jeans and stroking him firmly until Kuwabara can’t stand it anymore, and he has to pull the car over to the shoulder, where he grasps his lover by the hair and kisses him fiercely as he thrusts into those warm hands.

# 47: Harm
Kuwabara looks up from his lunch to find Yusuke eyeing him thoughtfully – “What’s up?” “I was just wondering, how do you manage to not break Kurama when you two are doing whatever the hell it is you do? He seems so…well, small, in comparison to you.” – and he is suddenly very grateful for the long sleeves and high collar of the school uniform, because they serve to cover the countless marks on his chest and neck and arms that his demon lover has left only the night before – “You, of all people, should know better than to underestimate him. You’ve seen him fight after getting stabbed through the stomach and beaten unconscious. He’s stronger than he looks.” – because, ironically, it is the smaller boy who is more likely to cause unintentional harm when he gets a little overzealous in bed, but Kuwabara really can’t bring himself to complain.

# 48: Precious
Kuwabara has been planning this evening for months, right down to the last detail, and it is so utterly like him to completely overlook something so fundamental as the goddamned ring; when Shiori walks in to find him desperately staving off panic at the kitchen counter, she trots off without a word and returns moments later with a small velvet box, which Kuwabara opens to discover the most elegantly simple golden ring he has ever seen: “It used to belong to my mother,” she says softly, and Kuwabara tries to thrust it back at her – “I can’t take this.” – but she folds it firmly into his hands with a smile – “He is precious to you, and you are precious to him. If the ring does not go to my son, to whom else can it go?” – and when Kuwabara can think of no words to adequately express his gratitude, Shiori understands.

# 49: Hunger
Kuwabara’s body gladly announces it’s hunger as he follows the warm scent of cooking food to the kitchen, but as he watches his demon lover move back and forth at the stove, the feeling morphs unexpectedly, becoming a very different kind of hunger, one that cannot be sated until he is braced above the smaller boy on the tiled floor, thrusting roughly into his body.

# 50: Believe
With all that he instinctively knows and all that he has seen of the behaviors of humankind, Kuwabara has a hard time believing in anything anymore – but when he can feel Kurama’s breath ghosting across his bare chest as the fox-demon murmurs softly, “I love you,” he knows he can believe that.
