Another set of 50 sentences for the livejournal community
1sentence. This set took me the longest, I think, because keeping Yusuke in character is actually really hard. I keep wanting him to do little sweetly romantic things, and then I have to smack myself in the forehead and think, "You moron, he's a teenage, half-demon streetfighter." At one point, I had him crying, and then I looked back and realized what utter crap that was and changed the sentence. (Cookie to anyone who can figure out which sentence it was...)
Anyways, enjoy. Let me know if something strikes you as really strange. I did my best, but that may not be saying much...
# 01: Air
They face each other across the grassy clearing, sweating and tired and gasping for air, and just before Yusuke launches his next vicious attack, Kurama catches sight of a peculiar gleam in the half-demon’s eyes and finds himself wondering – even as his arms and legs begin to go numb from blocking the powerful blows – if, perhaps, this is his idea of foreplay.
# 02: Apples
Yusuke’s kisses remind Kurama of fall’s freshest apples – clean and crisp, young and sweet, they always leave the fox-demon yearning for another taste.
# 03: Beginning
They lie face down, side-by-side, the Mirror of Utter Dark between them and gleaming coldly in the moonlight, and before Kurama can even realize that he is conscious, he understands that this is the beginning of the end: for how can he not love the foolhardy human boy willing to die for a cause he should care nothing about?
# 04: Bugs
Kuwabara and Yusuke wave irritably at the abnormally large, bloodsucking Makai insects until Yusuke finally snaps and fires off a deafening Shotgun blast into the humid air, dissipating the hovering clouds for a while; he glares at Kurama when the fox-demon laughs, and then he realizes something – “Hey! Why the hell don’t these things bother you?” – and Kurama just smiles and tilts his head slightly to one side, revealing a large, blood-red flower coiled tightly around his low ponytail: a flower that – even as Yusuke watches – snaps greedily shut over a bug that has wandered too close.
# 05: Coffee
Yusuke stumbles down the stairs in the morning, blearily rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he tracks the warm smell of breakfast to the kitchen, where he distracts Kurama from the stove long enough to share a lazy morning kiss, smiling at the lingering taste of the strong black coffee Kurama seems to need in order to properly function.
# 06: Dark
Kurama slides the lollipop out of his mouth with a slick pop and glances at Yusuke, eyes dark with passion and promise, and as his pink tongue darts out to glean the remaining sweetness on his lips, Yusuke finds himself unable to resist the blatant invitation; he advances slowly on his lover, raw hunger coiling tightly in his groin, and claims those sticky-sweet lips in a fierce kiss.
# 07: Despair
Yusuke falls to Sensui, and in the brief moment that calm brown eyes lock with anguished green before the Detective finishes his graceful spin to collapse on the floor of that desolate cave, Kurama understands that he has never before known true despair.
# 08: Doors
Doors, Kurama muses, as he finds himself pressed forcefully against his closed bedroom door by one very determined Urameshi Yusuke and tries desperately not to moan – his parents and little brother are right down the hall, after all – as the half-demon sucks at his neck like a starving man, stripping him roughly, lifting him forcefully by the hips and slamming into him with little warning, thrusting roughly until both have come to messy completion with strangled groans, When did doors become so dangerous?
# 09: Drink
When things in the Makai go foul, Yusuke retreats back to the Ningenkai, always returning first to Kurama’s small apartment – ignoring the locked doors and flopping inelegantly down onto the couch – because he knows that, despite his admonitions, the fox-demon really doesn’t mind, and even goes so far as to have at least a few hard drinks tucked away in the back of the fridge; and, indeed, every time Kurama returns home to find the half-demon waiting for him, the first thing Yusuke does is wordlessly hold up a hand for Kurama to place a cold drink into, and the fox-demon never lets him down.
# 10: Duty
Yusuke asks him why he continues to follow, why he continues to risk his life on dangerous missions – it isn’t necessary anymore, Koenma has granted him a full pardon – and Kurama only smiles; he may no longer have an official duty to accompany the Detective of Spirit World, but he now has a self-appointed duty to follow his half-demon lover.
# 11: Earth
Yusuke breathes against Kurama’s slim throat, savoring the rich, heady, earthy smell that rolls off the pale skin and slides across his palate, yielding the taste of the fox-demon before he ever makes the effort to open his mouth and slide his tongue across thick, warm veins and tendons, wringing a pleased sigh from the fox-demon.
# 12: End
“Prepare to meet your end, with fabulously over dramatized special effects,” Yusuke growls playfully, tossing a controller to Kurama and making himself comfortable on the floor, confident in his abilities to take the demon down in a simple fighting game; Kurama only smiles, folds himself gracefully onto the couch and quickly demonstrates that, though he may be a scholar, he is not adverse to the occasional distraction, as he pounds Yusuke’s character into the slightly-pixelated ground.
# 13: Fall
If there is one thing Yusuke likes about fall, it is the sinfully seductive picture Kurama makes when he is flat on his back, face flushed with pleasure, bright leaves caught in his tousled, flaming hair.
# 14: Fire
Yusuke hisses at the burn of blunt nails raking lines across his bare back, and he buries his face against Kurama’s slim throat, hips surging forward desperately, as the fire in his veins explodes in a hot, white blaze.
# 15: Flexible
Kuwabara gives an appreciative whistle as Kurama performs a series of stunning acrobatic tricks to avoid his opponent’s latest attack – “He’s damn flexible, that one.” – and Yusuke only glances sidelong at him with a surprisingly lecherous grin, returning ambiguously, “You have no idea.”
# 16: Flying
Threading his fingers into the long, red locks between his spread thighs, Yusuke rests his head against the rough bark of the tree at his back with a soft groan, all feeling fading to the pinpoint of that warm mouth on his aching cock, and when the cool summer breeze ruffles his hair, the sensation is so disconnected that Yusuke fancies for a moment he might be flying.
# 17: Food
Kurama smiles as the advent of early morning is heralded by a slim arm snaking across his hips, a warm body pressing against his back; and as Yusuke lays none-too-gentle nips across his bared neck and murmurs plaintively, “Feed me?”, Kurama is content for a while to roll his eyes, burrow further into the warmth of body and blanket, and simply let the half-demon’s progressively more desperate pleas for breakfast waft lazily around the slowly-lightening bedroom.
# 18: Foot
After the Sensui mission, Kurama accompanies Yusuke home to help him deal with the several extra feet of hair he has suddenly acquired, and as he is running his fingers through the half-demon’s newly-cut hair to remove any lingering loose strands, it seems like a perfectly natural thing for him to lean forward and press his lips to that warm mouth.
# 19: Grave
Yusuke throws himself onto the ground next to the neat grave, noting off-hand that, judging from the flowers and the lazily smoking sticks of incense, the others have already come and gone, and he can think of nothing appropriate to say but to mutter, “I totally had that damn demon, you know,” and somewhere, Kurama smiles.
# 20: Green
Kurama can’t help the way he looks – it takes a great deal of effort to make him unattractive – and even less the way he moves, so when the two go out dancing one night and Yusuke gets tired of all the offers Kurama is getting, the fox-demon allows the half-demon to grasp him firmly about the waist and accepts the sloppy, passionate, and obviously territory-marking kiss the younger boy gives – and if, when they part, Kurama imagines he can see a slightly green tint in Yusuke’s eyes, he doesn’t say anything.
# 21: Head
Kurama wakes some time around midnight with his legs tingling and a crick in his neck, and his keen ears pick out Yusuke’s steady breaths from near his waist, warm against his stomach – the half-demon has fallen asleep with his head in Kurama’s lap, waiting for his lover to finish his novel and come to bed – and the fox-demon cannot bring himself to rouse the boy, so he simply rolls his neck a few times, threads one hand gently into Yusuke’s sleep-rumpled hair, and determinedly shunts the feeling of pins and needles to a far corner of his mind, where it cannot disturb him as he drifts back to sleep.
# 22: Hollow
Yusuke can’t remember the precise moment it happened, but he knows that, at some point, his relationship with Keiko has emptied and hollowed, and that space is slowly, unerringly, being filled by thoughts of his green-eyed teammate.
# 23: Honor
When Yusuke comes barging into his room one day, Kurama doesn’t even bother looking up from his assignment – “That’s it, I’ve decided.” “Decided what, Yusuke?” “I’m going to damn well die an honorable, warrior’s death.” – but he feels a sly grin work its way onto his face as he responds carelessly – “No growing old and gray with me? No breathing our last breaths in tandem and dying in each other’s arms?” – and has to admit that he is rather pleased at the hesitation – no matter how brief – that follows before Yusuke vehemently reasserts his claim.
# 24: Hope
Kurama stands atop the building and watches through the lit windows as the Detective shies away from his Reikai companion – Kurama can smell her otherworldliness; it hangs around her like a strong perfume – and the first aid she offers, with cries loud enough to be heard through concrete and glass, and thinks about the trust he has seen reflected in those brown eyes, wondering if he dares to hope that he has found someone who can make this world feel more like home.
# 25: Light
Kurama has plenty of dark places within himself, the unavoidable result of long years of living a demon thief in the Makai, but when he’s with Yusuke, he can almost imagine that the half-demon’s overwhelming light and clarity banish the hanging shadows for a time.
# 26: Lost
With every touch, every kiss, every desperate whine and plea for more, Kurama feels the world slipping slowly away, and when Yusuke finally slides into his body, he knows that he is completely lost, adrift in a haze of red-hot pleasure.
# 27: Metal
Yusuke wakes at the touch of cold metal locking around his wrists, and decides – as he surreptitiously tugs on the handcuffs to test their strength while Kurama is occupied with performing a mind-numbing striptease – that he really needs to learn to sleep more lightly.
# 28: New
Kuwabara is the only one who notices the change in their relationship, a change that creates something new and yet, not: they have always cared for and looked out for one another, but never before have there been so many accidental touches exchanged, so many heated glances shared, so many muffled gasps and whimpers in the dead of night on missions that Kuwabara politely pretends not to hear.
# 29: Old
“You know, you’re awfully old,” Yusuke remarks one day, completely out of the blue, and Kurama quirks a curious eyebrow – “I beg your pardon?” – “You’re old,” Yusuke reiterates, “I mean think about it: you’re, what, thousands of years old; I’m only seventeen,” and Kurama looks at him with that sweetly incredulous expression for just a moment longer before calmly shoving him off the couch.
# 30: Peace
Times of peace can really only be understood by those who have lived through times of way; most often, when their respective groups of friends invite them out, they agree, but sometimes – when the days are particularly beautiful – they decline, and instead, find one another in a secluded corner of the local park, and Kurama leans back on Yusuke’s chest, and Yusuke wraps the fox-demon loosely in his arms, and they just enjoy.
# 31: Poison
It takes Yusuke a long time to think of a suitable way to describe his relationship with Kurama – understandable, really, as he is hardly in any position for deep, thoughtful contemplation when he’s with the fox-demon – but as he’s lying in bed one night, feeling Kurama’s touches burn across his skin and seep into his bones, running through his veins, making him lazy and warm, it occurs to him, and he sits up suddenly, inadvertently hurling Kurama off the bed – he lands on the floor with an indignant squawk – and exclaims, “It’s like poison!”; needless to say, despite all attempts to explain his line of reasoning, he is exiled to the couch for the rest of the night.
# 32: Pretty
Kurama’s red hair is usually neat and tidy, hanging loosely down his back in gentle waves that are described by many people as “pretty” – an adjective that never fails to make Kurama shudder in disgust – but Yusuke knows better: the red locks are most attractive when they’re tangled and mussed, slightly damp with sweat, and warm around Yusuke’s grasping fingers as he cradles Kurama’s head to exchange hot kisses in the dark.
# 33: Rain
The rain pours down outside, but the two take no notice, so much more intent on skin against skin, on the delicate slide of bodies on and in one another, on the gasps and moans and whispered names that somehow manage to rise above the roar of the storm.
# 34: Regret
When Kurama slips one day and kisses him in front of everyone, Keiko looks at him with eyes full of betrayal, and Yusuke cannot stop the regret that knifes through him, but it is one of the only things he never shares with his demon lover, because – in all the things the fox-demon knows – Yusuke feels that this is something he never needs to.
# 35: Roses
Yusuke shows up at his door with a bouquet of rosebuds, black button-down tucked neatly into his jeans, hair slicked back, and Kurama can’t help but laugh – the half-demon just looks so uncomfortable – before reaching out to pull the shirt open, letting it hang open over the plain white undershirt, tousling the hair back to its usual style, and leaning in to place a warm kiss to the half-demon’s lips, roses blooming magnificently between their bodies.
# 36: Secret
Though he doesn’t know exactly what it is, Kuwabara can see the secret the two are harboring – it hovers in the air around them, thick and musky, and it alters the familiar colors of their auras; Yusuke’s bright blue – almost white, really – burns hotter and brighter in passion, but appears muddied somehow, as if through regret or uncertainty; Kurama’s soft green shimmers with streaks of gold that are purely Youko, but deepens through veins of pure black guilt.
# 37: Snakes
Kurama lets the slim reptile twine around his arms and neck, holding its spade-shaped head up to his own so that it can flick its forked tongue out to dance along his pale skin, and murmurs reverently, “Beautiful”; it is at this point that he notices Yusuke a little ways away, staring fixedly into what appears to be an empty cage – “Are you all right?” – and the half-demon blushes slightly, muttering, “I don’t really like snakes, okay?” prompting a soft chuckle from Kurama as he replaces the slim black – so black it’s almost blue – snake and walks down the pet store aisle to press a gentle kiss to Yusuke’s lips.
# 38: Snow
The night Yusuke makes his decision, it is snowing, and he stands uncertainly on Kurama’s front lawn for so long that when Kurama does eventually open to door to his hesitant knock, the flakes have collected in his hair, turning black to shimmering silver, and Kurama reaches up to brush them away with a smile before leaning in to kiss the half-demon’s chilled mouth.
# 39: Solid
The human body he has chosen to inhabit is not weak, but it is built delicately, all sleek muscles and curved lines, and so Kurama enjoys the solidity of Yusuke’s young, hard body against his own.
# 40: Spring
Yusuke walks with a cocky and satisfied spring in his step, Kurama following deliberately, limping almost imperceptibly; Kuwabara considers asking why this is, but ultimately decides that he probably doesn’t really want to know.
# 41: Stable
As much as Yusuke craves spontaneous street fights, jarring changes of fortune, going through life constantly alert, he can still appreciate the strong stability of Kurama’s character: the peace and tranquility that seem to follow in the fox-demon’s wake and allow Yusuke to drop his guard for a time.
# 42: Strange
Yusuke doesn’t understand the strange, new – but not entirely unpleasant – feeling that courses through him when he is around Kurama; all he knows is that the feeling grows and builds, becoming almost maddening until the day he finally snaps and pounces on the fox-demon, plundering his mouth roughly, at which point the feeling morphs into something else, something pleasant and surprising.
# 43: Summer
Yusuke lies on his back, gazing drowsily up at the clouds from the roof of the school, and longs for summer – because summer means no school, no classes, no Keiko pestering him to do his homework, and – most importantly, on some level he doesn’t quite understand yet – more free time to spend in the presence of a certain enigmatic redhead.
# 44: Taboo
Kurama knows that, by society’s standards, what they are doing is completely taboo – that once they leave the confines of the bedroom, they must hide their relationship, guard it closely – but as Yusuke leans down to kiss him as he rocks his hips gently, Kurama gathers the half-demon close to him and savors what he has.
# 45: Ugly
Yusuke is quite familiar with the well-known sentiment, “Jealousy is ugly,” and he can’t help but think that it’s just one more stereotype with which his demon lover refuses to conform; because when Kurama’s got him pinned to the bed, biting and sucking roughly at his neck and chest, a low, possessive growl rumbling from deep within his body as he murmurs over and over again, “Mine,” Yusuke knows that it’s absolutely got to be the hottest thing he’s ever seen.
# 46: War
When the message comes, locked in that fragile glass orb, a call to a world he has willingly let slip from his memories, he goes first to Yusuke and holds the half-demon in his arms for what he suspects may be the last time – because they both know there is a war looming on the horizon, and that they have just been called to opposing sides.
# 47: Water
Kurama knifes through the clear water and emerges near the middle of the lake, shaking his sodden hair and turning back to beckon Yusuke in, and as the half-demon watches the glimmering droplets slide tantalizingly down slick, pale skin, he has to swallow hard against the raw hunger that coils deep in his belly.
# 48: Welcome
After years of constantly presenting a cool and composed exterior to the world, Kurama welcomes with open arms the release that comes from Yusuke’s lips and teeth and hands on his body, shattering his mask in the safety of his own bedroom and leaving him panting, begging, screaming for more.
# 49: Winter
Winter has always been Yusuke’s least favorite season – too cold, too wet – but when he’s curled in front of a roaring fire, warm under layers of thick blankets and sharing languid kisses with Kurama, who is grinding bare hips slowly, deliciously, against his own, he wonders if maybe he can’t eventually learn to like the season after all.
# 50: Wood
Kurama moans impatiently, wrapping his legs firmly around Yusuke’s slim waist, writhing against the hands biting hard into his hips, ignoring how the wooden desk beneath him scrapes across his bare back with every sharp snap of the half-demon’s hips, so caught up is he in the rolling pleasure.

Date: 2006-12-16 09:38 pm (UTC)Kuwabara gives an appreciative whistle as Kurama performs a series of stunning acrobatic tricks to avoid his opponent’s latest attack – “He’s damn flexible, that one.” – and Yusuke only glances sidelong at him with a surprisingly lecherous grin, returning ambiguously, “You have no idea.”
I couldn't stop laughing, as always very nice.

This where you had him cry?

Date: 2007-08-28 12:53 am (UTC)Yusuke stumbles down the stairs in the morning, blearily rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he tracks the warm smell of breakfast to the kitchen, where he distracts Kurama from the stove long enough to share a lazy morning kiss, smiling at the lingering taste of the strong black coffee Kurama seems to need in order to properly function.
Oddly enough, no joke, I'm writing a Yusuke/Kurama fic in which Kurama's one flaw is that he can't function without coffee. Strange now that I read this fic. Really strange.

I applaud you for not falling into the trap that was obviously set by the theme of Wood.
